Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the leading cause of death in
the developed world in both men and women. Too often the diagnosis
of CAD is made when patients become symptomatic, have an abnormal
specialized test such as stress testing or myocardial perfusion
exam, or undergo coronary angiography. By this time, heart disease
may already be advanced.
Early detection of heart disease could have a significant impact
on this disease. Lifestyle changes such as a change in diet, behavior
modification, or medical therapy are often successful in preventing
and even halting this disease when diagnosed early enough.
The Cardiac Scoring Exam can determine accurately and
non-invasively whether or not heart disease is present long before
you develop any recognizable symptoms.
Heart disease can be detected by measuring the amount
of calcified plaque in the arteries. As the amount of plaque in
the arteries increases, they become narrower, an effect commonly
known as hardening of the arteries, which increases
the chances of a sudden heart attack. Cardiac Scoring detects
the amount of plaque in the coronary arteries.
Using Oregon Imaging Center's
CT scanner, the exam is performed non-invasively and painlessly
in about 15 minutes. Your results will be sent to you and your
doctor within 48 working hours.
