Dr. Cathy Chicola
Time is very precious to me; people may even describe me as being on a mission. Maybe I am. Breast cancer is a very treatable disease. The chances of making a full recovery are highly correlated with early detection. I suppose that is why I take my responsibility as a radiologist so seriously, I often feel like I am racing against time to help my patients.
On becoming a physician
I am fascinated by people. That's why I became a doctor.
I am from Louisiana, originally. As a Cajun, spices are very important to me. They are the lifeblood of food, making a meal more than just nourishing, but interesting and beautiful. That is how I see my patients, as unique individuals. I think we rely on each other to make life interesting. We have a responsibility to take care of each other. It is my patients' individualism, their spirit and how they are connected to their friends and family that fuels my passion for medicine.
As a physician, I feel that each life is precious and unique. Taking care of my patients is a profound responsibility that I truly am honored to hold.
