Dr. David Tsai
The human form is very logical. The way one system affects how another behaves is fascinating and beautiful. Radiology is a combination of systematic deduction and intuitive thinking. In my personal life, I naturally gravitate to activities that require logic and intuition.
Maybe that is why I enjoy bicycle racing. One rider or cycling team's action decides the outcome of a race. Just like one part of the body affects another, we are all connected.
In cycling, success is part skill, teamwork, strategy, athleticism and intuition. Radiology is very similar; when I help make a diagnosis I feel I am part of a team. Knowing that my contribution to the treatment plan is helping the patient and their physician is very satisfying. I am fortunate in that radiology has given me the opportunity to serve my patients and colleagues.
Dr. Tsai on the importance of community
I love practicing medicine in Eugene because the people in our community are so unique. Radiologists are often referred to as the "physician's consultant." Fresh out of medical school, I believed that being a good radiologist was dependent on being a good consultant. As I've gained experience, I realize that also includes being an active member of our community. The people I help care for are my neighbors; I see them at the grocery store or at my childrens' soccer games. Seeing myself as part of our community strengthens my awareness of the trust that patients instill in us. A strong sense of community is an intergal part of practicing medicine
