What is a sub-specialized radiologist?
Radiologists supervise and interpret all patient studies at Oregon Imaging Centers. Radiologists are medical doctors who, in addition to four years of medical school and two years of internship, pass a licensing examination and spend an additional four years in residency. Most are sub-specialized, which requires an additional one to two years of focused training. Oregon Imaging Centers benefit from our partnership with Radiology Associates PC, who employs radiologists in the following sub-specialty areas:
Breast imaging
Diagnostic radiology devoted to the diagnosis and treatment of breast diseases.
Cardiovascular
Radiology and how it applies to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the vascular (blood vessels) system.
Chest
Diagnostic radiology of diseases of the thorax, especially the heart or lungs.
Computed Tomography (CT)
Diagnostic radiology using computerized radiologic equipment that demonstrates both bone and soft tissues, including organs, muscles and tumors.
Diagnostic Radiology
Diagnosis using radiology.
Emergency
Diagnostic imaging of emergency trauma or non-traumatic emergency conditions.
Head and Neck
Diagnostic radiology of diseases of the head and neck.
Interventional
Fluoroscopy, CT and ultrasound are used to guide passage through the skin by needle puncture, including introduction of wires and catheters for performing procedures such as biopsies, draining fluids, inserting catheters, or dilating or stenting narrowed ducts or vessels.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Diagnostic radiological modality using nuclear magnetic resonance technology. MRI uses radio waves and a strong magnetic field rather than X-rays to provide detailed pictures of internal organs and tissues.
Musculoskeletal
Diagnostic radiology of diseases of the muscles and the skeleton.
Neuroradiology
Diagnostic radiology of diseases of the central nervous system, head and neck.
Nuclear Medicine
Diagnostic and therapeutic uses of radionuclides, excluding the therapeutic use of sealed radiation sources.
Ultrasound
High frequency sound waves and other techniques for medical diagnosis.
